DRINK DRIVE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN - Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

you-08.jpgThe TTC Group is continuing its campaign to help raise awareness about drink driving with the publication in a national magazine of a true life story about a woman who attended one of their drink drive rehabilitation courses.

Jenny Adams (37) almost ended up in prison when she was caught four times over the limit after consuming two bottles of wine to “make her happy.” Her story along with five other women also caught drink driving recently appeared in the Mail on Sunday’s You magazine.

Jenny, who was fined £2,000 and banned from driving for three years, told how the thought that she could have killed someone had make her feel physically sick.

Lonely after the end of a long term relationship, she had turned to drink to take the edge off her sadness and often drank more than two bottles of wine a night. She had been on the way out to buy a third bottle when her car crashed into railings.

“I had to go to court three times and my solicitor warned me I could be facing a four months prison sentence. Waiting months to hear my fate was awful and I hated all the lying.

“With the help of counselling I feel stronger and more confident about the future. I still have the occasional drink but I don’t need alcohol in the way that I did before. The accident was my wake up call. If it hadn’t happened I could so easily have become a long term alcoholic,” said Jenny.

TTC Group Director Graham Wynn OBE, said that people attending a TTC rehabilitation course often wanted to tell their story to deter others.

More than 10,000 attend an alcohol awareness course each year run by TTC, of Hadley Park, Telford, Shropshire.
