CHARITY GALA BALL FOR HOSPICE - Friday, July 20th, 2007

Hoping to raise £20,000 - charity Gala Ball organiser Graham Wynn takes to the “dance floor” with hospice fund raiser Sarah Hawthorne at the Severn Hospice.

Agala-1web.jpg Charity Gala Ball is being held in Shropshire for all county businesses who want to support the Severn Hospice.

Celebrating the opening of Telford’s first hospice, it is being heralded as one of Shropshire’s premier social events of 2007.

Aimed at the county’s corporate world, organisers are hoping to fill the 600 seats at the special black tie dinner and dance at the International Centre in Telford on September 15.

Graham Wynn OBE is the businessman with the idea of staging the first class gala ball at one of the county’s leading venues with the serious aim of raising £20,000 for the Severn Hospice appeal.

“We hope that any business that is in business will be there,” said Graham, director of the driver education specialists, the TTC Group, of Hadley Park, Telford.

“It will be a fun night above all for everyone. A place where all the county’s top business people and their guests can get together for the evening, have a great time, and know that they are contributing towards keeping the new Severn Hospice open.

“For Shropshire businesses this will be the ideal venue to entertain your customers and suppliers and reward your key members of staff while showing your support for this worthy charity.”

“We all know somebody in our lives who has been affected by serious illness. The hospice reaches out to so many people. And we as business leaders should lead the way and help raise enough funds to secure the future of the hospice,” said Mr Wynn, whose company has adopted the hospice as its special charity.

A £5 million appeal launched in 2004 to pay for the new building in Wellington was achieved due to the generosity of Shropshire people, said Paul Cronin, of the hospice appeal fund. There was now “a massive challenge” to raise the funds needed to open eight bedrooms and a family room and keep the hospice running year on year. The opening of the Telford hospice will relieve pressure on the Bicton Heath hospice freeing up places for more patients from Shrewsbury and the rest of the county.

Mr Cronin appealed to county firms also to join the hospice lottery, hold corporate days, initiate payroll giving and hold charity raising events to help the hospice reach its target.

“There will be people in your business who will be users of our services and all of us will be touched at some time in our lives by the need for such a service.”
