ON THE ROAD TO BETTER TEACHING - Monday, June 11th, 2007

irsoweb.jpgRoad safety officers improved their alcohol and drugs teaching skills during their annual training day held at the TTC Group, the UKs leading alcohol awareness training organisation.

A total of 26 officers from the East and West Midlands branches of the Institute of Road Safety Officers (IRSO) met at the TTCs head office in Telford, Shropshire, to hold their annual meeting and learn more about the dangers of drink, drugs, over the counter medicines and roadside testing.                                                                         RSO’s Jane Lees and Angela Wyatt

TTC Development Manager John Price gave them tips on how to get the message over to both youngsters and adults as part of road safety presentations.

“This was an advanced presentation as they all have professional skills at giving talks on drugs and alcohol,” said John, whose driver training organisation teaches thousands of people each year in both the public and private sector.

Stoke senior road safety officer Angela Wyatt said: “We all give many presentations so it was tremendous to listen to John Price who was a superb speaker. Many of us give talks to schools and we all thought we gained skills which we can use in future presentations.”

Road Safety Training Manager Adrian Hide, of Staffordshire County Council, said the talk gave them all ideas on using props in their presentations.

“The talk at TTC will help us as a local authority to deliver our message to schools,” he said.

Warwickshire roads safety officer Jane Lees said: “It was superb. We learned a lot and John was fantastic as a presenter. We really enjoyed it. It was fully worthwhile coming to, a brilliant day.”
