RAP MUSIC GETS DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE MESSAGE OVER - Monday, March 19th, 2007

Love Isaac SackeyA rap musician caught drink driving has written a song urging people never to drink and drive – and it is now being used by driver training organisation, the TTC Group, to raise awareness across the UK.

Rap singer Love Isaac Sackey (49) wrote the lyrics and the music after attending a drink drive rehabilitation course run by TTC in which he was moved to tears after watching a film about the victims of drink driving.

The song is to be used in TTCs campaign to educate people about the dangers of drink driving.

Police caught the musician when he drove his car into the back of another vehicle after drinking with a friend.

“I didn’t know what I was doing. I couldn’t remember anything. I never intended to drive but just didn’t think until it was too late,” said Love, who came to the UK from Ghana when he was 22.

The popular musician, who plays in clubs, pubs and at festivals, appeared before local magistrates a few weeks after the crash in Mansfield and was given the chance of attending a rehabilitation course in Nottingham.

He attended three sessions totalling 18 hours of education on alcohol, absorption rates, alcohol units, health, learning about the strengths of alcohol and how it is served in larger measures as well as finding out about the “morning after” effect.

“The course was excellent. It opened my mind up about drink driving. I was surprised that all ages were on the course,” said Love, who lives in Nottingham.

“As part of the course they showed us all a video about victims and it made me cry. Others were crying too. It moved me a lot and I decided to write the song and get it produced onto a CD. Everyone needs to know about drink driving.”

Love is also considering turning the drink driving song by LPK & Co into a music video. The music CD is being distributed by education specialists, the TTC Group, which provide a third of rehabilitation courses in the UK and also provide corporate education.

TTC Group Director Jenny Wynn said: “We put 10,000 convicted drink drivers through our courses each year and it always has an effect on those who attend.

“We want to thank Love for making this CD. It will help us in our campaign to highlight the dangers of drink and driving.”
