MAGISTRATES PRAISE DRINK DRIVE COURSE - Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Tameside magistrates sent themselves onto an education course for convicted drink drivers to learn more about the training received by offenders. They praised the course which is delivered to drink drivers in a bid to stop them re-offending.

A total of 20 JPs attended a seminar at Tameside Magistrates Court giving an insight into the 18 hour rehabilitation course which offenders volunteer to attend in exchange for up to a quarter off their driving ban.

They are provided by the TTC Group which runs a third of the courses in the UK.

Tameside JP Jean Parker said: β€œIt was an eye-opener and quashed a lot of myths about drink driving. It was an enjoyable evening, very informative and well presented getting the point over in an understandable way.”

The training from TTCs Mel Hughes includes information on alcohol, units, absorption rates, health and effects on driving ability. Magistrates said it improved their understanding of the rehabilitation course which they send convicted drink drivers onto.
