ROAD RISK TRAINING AIDS HOSPICE - Thursday, January 11th, 2007

A unique business partnership aims to cut workforce road and injury deaths – and raise money for a new hospice at the same time. Business and charity can work together as proved by a partnership between a national driver training and education specialists and a car showroom dealership.

The TTC Group, a corporate training company which educates businesses in managing occupational road risk and J.T.Hughes which runs the Mitsubishi and Honda dealerships in Telford have linked up in the hope of raising thousands of pounds for the new Telford hospice.

They want as many Shropshire firms to come forward as possible who want to offer essential road risk training to their staff with the fee being donated towards the running costs of the new hospice next to the Princess Royal Hospital.

The TTC Group, which has 100 trainers across the UK, is offering the education free of charge while J.T.Hughes will host the venue at no cost at their showrooms.

J.T.Hughes is first sending its 50 staff onto the highly acclaimed interactive training sessions to teach them about the problems of alcohol and drugs including over the counter and prescribed medicines and their effect on driving skills.

TTC National Training Manager Malcolm Jones, whose organisation based at Hadley Park, Telford, educates thousands of drivers each year in both the corporate and public sector, said: “Corporate social responsibility is an area where everyone benefits. The business world gets education to make employees better drivers which contributes towards our aim of reducing deaths and injuries on our roads.

“The hospice needs to raise £3 million for its running costs and through this scheme Shropshire business will be contributing to a most worthwhile cause.”

TTC aims to educate workforces on behalf of employers who want to make their employees aware of the pitfalls and dangers caused by alcohol and drugs in relation to driving. The problems of the “morning after” when many motorists are arrested unaware that they are over the drink drive limit will also be highlighted.

Dealer principal Vernon Hogg said: “We are always looking for ways to help employees improve as well as continue to raise funds for the hospice. This training will do that as we are giving attendees the opportunity to join the hospice’s lottery or donate funds to their very worthy cause.”

J.T.Hughes follows leading Shropshire firm Ricoh, which also called in TTC trainers to educate all their 600 employees in a bid to widen their knowledge and increase road safety.

In Shropshire 1,350 were killed or seriously injured in road crashes in 2004. For more information about corporate driving courses contact the TTC Group, of Hadley Park, Telford, Shropshire, on 0845 270 4380
