TTC TALK TO PRISON INMATES - Wednesday, September 20th, 2006
Driver training and alcohol awareness organisation, the TTC Group, visited a Staffordshire prison to talk to inmates.
TTC Group Development Manager John Price gave a two hour presentation on alcohol and driving to prisoners as part of an education exercise on substance misuse.
A total of 50 inmates attended the sessions which were being run to help them lead a more productive life on their release from jail.
A demonstration was performed to show the varying strengths of alcohol and how drinks are now served in larger measures. New police powers to breath test motorists and gain evidence at the roadside were also revealed.
A quiz on alcohol was held along with information given on how over the counter medicines contain alcohol and how many motorists are caught out the next day unaware that alcohol was still in their system.
“It was felt to be useful information to help dispel a lot of myths that they
had believed when they were outside prison,” said John, who gives talks to a wide range of people from convicted drink drivers to schoolchildren to businesses in the corporate sector who wish to educate their employees.
“Drivers should not drink any alcohol at all before driving. The only safe limit for driving is none,” he added.
The talk to residents of HMP Dovegate’s Therapeutic Community in Staffordshire followed a session with representatives from Alcoholics Anonymous talking about their experiences.
