WALES FORMER POLICE CHIEF JOINS TTC
02 September 2010

The former head of Carmarthenshire Police has joined the UK’s leading driver education organisation to continue his “passion” for road safety.

Keith Jones (49), who retired as a Chief Superintendent and Divisional Commander after a 30 year career in the police force, is the Regional Co-ordinator for TTC in Mid and South Wales. He is involved in running speed awareness courses and diversionary education schemes across the three police forces of Dyfed-Powys, South Wales and Gwent Police on behalf of the award winning TTC Group.

“The role with TTC appealed to me. During my police career I’ve lost count of the number of fatal and serious injury road accidents that I have both dealt with and been involved in investigating. It would often result in a knock on the door in the early hours to tell someone that their loved one had died”.

“I still want to make a difference and I like TTC’s ethos as a not for profit organisation. Enforcement is good in the short term but long term there must be education running alongside it which is what TTC offers in providing courses for drink drive offenders, people who speed and in National Driver Improvement.”

The former Chief Superintendent is now using his years of experience in road safety and partnership working to forge links with the three police forces in Mid and South Wales.

As well as managing a team of trainers, he is responsible for liaising with police forces and training venues, coordinating Welsh language courses across the region and also runs speed awareness courses which were introduced into the area last year.

Keith joined the Metropolitan Police in 1979 before transferring to Dyfed Powys Police and rising through the ranks to Chief Superintendent and Divisional Commander. As a father of two, from Llanelli, Keith gained an honours degree in law from the University of London in 2005 and retired from the force in 2009.

“As soon as I retired I wanted to do something else and after gaining a law degree I decided I wanted to work in the private sector. I am very pleased that I chose the TTC Group as they are a worthwhile organisation which is trying to save lives through driver education which is something I feel very passionate about.”
