Drink drivers from the Midlands have told why they did it in interviews posted on You Tube in a bid to deter younger motorists from taking to the road while over the limit.
Four convicted motorists confessed their crimes in candid interviews carried out by Shropshire’s TTC Group which is the UK’s main provider for the successful drink drive rehabilitation programme.
Their reasons for drink driving ranged from being “bored” and “depressed” to having a row with a girlfriend and “popping to the pub” for just one drink.
All four, who attended a drink drive rehabilitation course in Wolverhampton, warned other motorists not to be “so stupid” as the consequences were simply “not worth it.”

Simon, who thought the chances of being stopped were “virtually non existent” lost his job as a driving instructor when he crashed his car and was breathalysed at his hospital bedside.
“You are left with a criminal record, you won’t be able to take the kids to Disneyland, it can harm your job prospects and you may even lose your job. It just really isn’t worth it.”

While Andy, a company director, told how he was locked up overnight in a police cell and it had cost him £600 in fines, costs and bus fares after he got a 20 month ban for his first offence.
“I popped out for the proverbial one and four hours later, after a skinful, the police pulled me as I drove off the pub car park. It has been an absolute pain. I lost my company car, I can’t take my daughter out, just getting to work is hard. My mum and my partner were not impressed with me.”

Lee, an underground utility surveyor, had been working in Scotland when he spent three days in a police cell awaiting a court appearance after being caught by police. He was given a hefty £1,200 fine and volunteered to attend the rehabilitation course to get a quarter off his 12 month ban.
He said how difficult it was to get around having to rely on other people for a lift.
“Don’t do it. It’s just not worth it. The expense is phenomenal.”

Martin, a fork lift truck driver, from Wednesbury, said he stupidly drove to his mum’s after a row with his girlfriend during a night out in Bilston. He had to rely on his girlfriend to drive him about, his insurance would be “sky high,” and people now labelled him a drink driver.
“Stupidly I didn’t even think about it but I could have had an accident and killed somebody. That’s what has been drilled home to me on this rehabilitation course. It’s not worth it, just don’t do it.”
