A driving instructor for TTC Automotive raced to the rescue of a driver after a bizarre road crash.
Martin Hogg (pictured), who runs driver training courses for businesses and organisations on behalf of TTC Automotive, was praised by the emergency services for his prompt actions.
He was just arriving at a pupil’s home for a driving lesson when a car suddenly crashed into Dudley Building Society.
“I immediately thought a bank raid was going on,” said Martin, a grade 5 advanced driver.
But the driver panicked and reversed straight into a phone mast causing an electricity box to crash to the ground – before racing forward again and knocking out a window in the building society.
“I could see the driver was an older gentleman who was obviously in distress. A passer-by dialled 999 and I opened the driver’s door. He had a glazed look and I thought he may have had a stroke.
“He got very agitated and tried to start the car again so I snatched the keys out of the ignition. I saw that the electricity box was not sparking and I didn’t want to move him as I could see he was disabled so I thought it best to keep him where he was and re-assured him that everything was going to be OK.”
“The police praised me for my quick thinking but I just assessed the situation and acted as quickly as I could.”
TTC Automotive director Simon Baugh also praised Martin’s speedy actions which prevented any further crash and for helping to calm down the driver involved.
