Speed awareness courses are being run on Sundays in Worcester for the first time to make it easier for motorists to attend.
The TTC Group, which runs the courses on behalf of West Mercia Police to re-educate motorists and cut the county’s road crash toll, have opened a training centre at Brindley Court on the Shire Business Park in Gresley Road.
The courses already run on weekdays and Saturdays but are being extended to the whole weekend to avoid attenders having to take time off work during the week.
TTC Director Malcolm Jones said: The courses will be held in two purpose built training rooms and last for four hours. Previously we hired hotel suites to hold the courses but we couldn’t run them on Sundays as other events were happening then.
“Our courses have been well received and people do tell us they get a lot out of them. Running them on Sundays just makes it easier for people so they don’t have to take half a day off work.”
On the courses, motorists learn how to stick to speed limits and avoid concentration lapses instead of a fine and penalty points. Research shows that drivers who attend speed awareness courses are less likely to break speed limits than those who are prosecuted.
The TTC Group is a nationally recognised driver training organisation and also runs training courses throughout Worcestershire for people convicted of drink driving as well as corporate driver training courses for company drivers in the county.
