A POEM FROM A SPEEDING MOTORIST
27 January 2010

After attending the newly introduced speed awareness course in Wales, one motorist was spurred on to write a poem about his experience. We publish it with thanks to Mr Tom Gould, of Pontypool.

A speed awareness course I attended today
In Newport, at the YMCA
With alteration that was new
Newport was a nightmare to get through

Finally there, I found my way
For four hours had to stay
Passing the test was a big concern
The consequences of speed we had to learn

The course leader was Emma Byrne
Who was great and saw our concern
We were shown slides and questions asked
On scenes of present and past

To improve awareness of speed and signs
How best them could define.
The adage of the two minute rule
He who breaks it, is a fool.

The safe distance, driving at normal speed
This same motorists do not heed.
Groups shared pictures, finding hazards if any
Working together we found many.

The course leader was the best
The course was a worthwhile test.
To things, it’s opened my eyes
I now believe I’m more roadwise.

Tom Gould, of Pontypool.
